Subject: Warrior Weekend Program
The Warrior Weekend Program since its beginning in 2007 has provided a valuable service for America’s Heroes who are recovering from injuries sustained in this War on Terror.
The program started at the Water Reed Army Medical Center and since its closing has been supporting the troops here at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
The American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, Delaware who sponsors this program has shown a great deal of caring and compassion for the troops entrusted to their care.
The many troops and their families who have participated in the program are appreciative of the fact that the program is small and the plans are to keep it small. The program philosophy is that they would rather fill van with troops and their families than a bus or an airplane. This way the program personnel get to know each of the troops and their families. In this case, small is better.
The Warrior Weekend Program is an important part of the troop’s recovery process. Having the opportunity to leave the hospital environment for a weekend, or in some cases for a week, is great therapy for these men and women and their families. The program plans different activities for the troops for the weekend, however they all have the option to do nothing and sit back and relax and get reconnected with their families.
It is our sincere desire that this Warrior Weekend Program continues for as long as we have troops recovering from injuries sustained defending this great country of ours.
Thanks you for supporting our troops and our Nation!
Sincerely,
Sandra D. Halmon
